Halloween Short Story
Back in 2000 I had written for fun a short story about a boy having trouble with a scarecrow in western Canada. The story (called simply The Scarecrow) was a fun project for me in when I was just getting into writing. I did a lot more writing then but that’s something I’m trying to change!
The story takes place over a few days leading up to Halloween. The ending is a little grim but I thought it was a good ironic twist and a scary tale to share at one of my favourite times of the year.
At the time I had been spending summers visiting family that lived on a farm and I was happy to draw on some of those experiences for the story.
I had been a member (and still am I think?) of fanfiction.net where I had posted this story. Posted there I received many good reviews (despite all the grammar and spelling mistakes!) which really made me feel proud about this work. I even had a request for someone to print it in their school paper around Halloween time. I could never get in touch with the person to give them the OK, but I certainly hoped they used the story!
I have since dusted off the story and made some minor improvements and corrections, but 90% of the story is the same. I have turned it into a free PDF download from this site and I hope you will read and enjoy it, and maybe leave a comment.
